Print iPhone HEIC photos

Customers send their iPhone photos as they are, in HEIC. Many print programs cannot open HEIC, so the shop app makes a JPG copy next to the original.

About 3 minutes.

  1. 1

    Check the setting

In the shop app, open Settings → Files. “Make a JPG copy of HEIC photos” is on unless you turned it off. The HEIC original is kept.

  2. 2

    On a Mac

Nothing else is needed: the shop app uses the converter built into macOS.

  3. 3

    On Windows

The shop app uses the HEIC support in Windows: if the Photos app opens an iPhone photo on this PC, it works. If not, install HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store (many PCs have them already), or ImageMagick (free, from imagemagick.org), and restart the shop app. Without any of these, HEIC photos are saved as they are and marked “HEIC not converted”.

  4. 4

    Location data

Before saving, the shop app removes location data from HEIC photos, which the phone cannot do for them.
